tinman3 3
I've got one: Border dam, Whippet sire. He is tiny: 17", not that fast but one of the best ferreting and cover dogs I've ever had. Brilliant nose, faces any cover: how he hasn't blinded himself I'll never know: although he's not yet 3 years old he has flushed most things, but it's ferreting where he impresses most. Consistent and accurate mark, catches bolters before they've gone a yard, retrieves to hand: I could go on LOL His only fault, if you could call it that, is that he isn't fast enough to catch running rabbits on top: different to some bolters which aren't as fast as one heading for home: depending on the land of course. looks a B-E-U-T that like! He flushes anything with a pulse: loves wooden tops and charlie, though I'd never deliberately set out to do anything so illegal! He's far too small to tackle anything big on his own, but he's perfect for flushing stuff from cover in places where I dare not let the terriers loose for fear they'll go to ground in bad places. So far he's shown no desire to go to ground at all: long may it last as his nose is great: means I can go places and flush stuff without worrying about losing a terrier to ground. sounds a handy cross for your type of work. Hollie 21
Thia ones actually a whippet cross JRT but could easily be mistaken for a border cross in terms of looks. It's a cracking worker. What a strange looking tent!! I really really like the look of this cross, some very nice dogs indeed Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
We have a JRT x Whippet, he's a cracking dog, excellent at everything though not as fast as anything thats bigger or racier. Excellent for ferreting, definatley his forte, cracking on the lamp, though straight-liners get away, his runs are very cleverly thought out consisting of lots of turning and catching it out. He wasnt really bought with being a fully working dog in mind but he has taken to it so well and done things we never though he would, trainability is very good as well. A strong type, that heals quickly and has very good sturdy 'cat' feet. Quote Link to post
