Gas rams

Recommended Posts

Hey Steve,

A Gas ram is like the 'suspension' of a car in principle.

When you break the barrel, you compress the gas thats held within the Ram Unit in much the same way that the spring is compressed in a Springer

Once you press the trigger, the sear is released (as in a springer) but the compressed gas is allowed to expand (like a springer).

The difference is that a Springer will have a Twisting motion to it as it uncompresses and a spring (being a solid) takes that little bit more time to uncompress.

Where as a Gas Ram (being gas) has not 'uncoiling motion' and it also expands faster than the solid of the spring.

This leads to a Shorter "Lock Time" (from release of the sear to the pellet exiting the barrel). The recoil felt is much like a shotty, straight back and sharp. Where as a springer, has Backward recoil, as well as forward AND recoil in the opposit direction to the direction that the spring will uncoil.

Hope that helps a little?

Very easy to fit in my BSA Supersport and I love mine. sharper recoil and louder crack as mentioned. Pretty darn consistent in my gun. you can get them of Theoben, there used to be a top man on the site who had something to do with AWT and sold them too... deffo a good investment if your into your self compressed guns, The only other thing that I found impoves a springer is setting the scope on a lower mag such as 6 or 7.
