Wullz 408
Was out for a wee wander at the weekend, had spotted some slots in an earlier snowfall, so was hoping to come across a doe for the freezer. There were no fresh slots, so I took off along the fence line and came across fox sign, very fresh, powder still lying on the outside of the tracks....followed them down to a big expanse of gorse, couldnt see any sign of the fox, but I knew it was about. Had a wee look at a shrew that had popped up out of a snow hole, was running avout looking for scoff.....just then the fox came out of the gorse about 70 yards away, he hadnt seen me. I got down and set up my sticks, gave a wee squeak and he ran in towards me, stopped head on about 60 yards and I took the shot, he was in great condition, full winter coat, big dog fox....shot went through his bottom jaw and right into the centre of his chest, dropped instantly. So, after the photo (have to show my shooting partner, we operate on a 'no corpse, no count' policy) I thought, thats it, everything in the area wuold have heard the shot, I went straight back over the top of the hill as opposed to round the edge of the field....whats just wandering along the edge of a gully, a roe doe....I dropped slowly, but she had seen me, I was right in the middle of a white field! And off she went at speed....right out of the field and down into the big, heavily wooded gorge...boogah! Never mind, one less lamb killer this spring.....the doe will keep till the next daytime, chance I get.....boxing day hopefully. Will be out with the lamp tonight, put a couple of pheasant carcasses out last night, hopefully there will be another charlie or two nosing about.... Quote Link to post
