Funny old thing, incontinence...

Recommended Posts

Now here's a funny thing:

3.30am this morning, B, the ancient white whippet-cross shoves an unwelcome nose in my face and insists that she's not making it up, she really does need to go out. Obviously I push her off a couple of times (or at least try to encourage her round the other side of the bed so the long-haired-general can have to deal with it. Result? 13 year old whippetty coloured puddle by the bedroom door.

B**locks, I think, sling her out of the back door, and set to with a bucket and rag.

By this time, of course, I and the other three are wide-awake, and while Reeves is old and Dill the beddy lurcher ran into some barbed wire and is off games for a week or so, the new boy (greyhound-deerhound type) was determined not to let the oportunity slip. The next half an hour or so is taken up with me trying to get back to sleep, the wind howling outside, and Hvala pacing up and own muttering to himself.

Eventually, of course, I gave up, grabbed the lamp, and headed out with the new boy. No matter that he was only picked up as a starving stray in October, or that his only kill was in broad daylight, let's give him a walk if nothing else. Or so went the plan.

An hour and a half later, with one long chase at full tilt, and a sitter bagged with a strike to die for, and I was the happiest moocher alive: perfect recall, immaculate delivery, and that long, rangey stride that deerhounds make look so easy. And the three or four that he didn't get, that were too close to the bush - hey, they'll be there another night. We even had permission to be there.

And just think - if B hadn't wet herself, we'd never have gone...

Funny old thing, incontinence :D
