gaining new permission

Recommended Posts

I've been lucky recently in getting some new permission and it's been based mainly on the good behaviour of my dogs(particulary the lurcher pup)

Went away a few weeks ago for a weekend and had to leave the dogs, found a woman near to us who kept dogs on her small bit of land it was £10 a dog a day and they would be out all day with her around her stables and out with her when she went riding. The dogs didn't let me down , when i got back she said they were perfectly behaved around her horses, i've walked the pup through fields with cows since she was12 weeks and it seems to have paid off. I asked her about the chance of some ferreting and maybe some lamping(when the pups a bit older) on her bit of land and it was no worries, on top of that she asked a the farmer on my behalf and again permission granted.

This week I've been working on some farm buildings about 20 miles away from me and got talking to the farmer and before long i was gently hinting about the chance of doing some on his land, first day he was against the idea but again my pup won him over. He kept commenting on what a nice dog she was and today as he let the dairy herd out (about 100 cows 2 feet from her nose) the pup stood stock still without a murmur :toast: , she's not to fazed by anything, again he made a fuss of her and a load of praise and said once i had started her running i could go up there but could he tag along as he would like to see her run, no worries.

To top it off as i was leaving he gave me 2 mallards he had shot the evening before happy days

I've seen on here people struggling to get permission I think if you approach people in a polite manner and more importantly they see your dogs are well behaved farmers will still let you on their land.

Cheers

Good permission is hard come by,keep it to yourself then no one can ruin it for you.Once youve got your feet under the table with one farmer his neighbours will usually follow suit.

I go ferreting with one lad and lamping with a mate and thats it, it's the same as anything you know who you can trust

good news that mate well done.the key is as you say in the dogs behavior.lurchers raise an eyebrow with most farmers but if they see one that does as its told and proves its well stock brocken it also speaks volumes for the owner.i got 5ooo acres in one hit this year of the back of my dogs good behavior.
