Recommended Posts

Hi lads havent been out with ye old rifle in far to long so got together with a good freind of myn to finnaly go put some lead about. :gunsmilie:

it has however just dawn on me that it will be halloween and ill be out in the dark in the middle of no where. :icon_eek:

not shure i still want to go!!

ya right going to take the devil him self to stop me getting out.

have a small prob however.

have just fitted the lamp back on to the scope, and as im shure you all no this has the habbit of nocking the zero out.

no my problem is im working to day 30th 9 till 5 in the shop, then 6 till 1 in the bar.and im going out stright from work at 1.30am hence the problem,

can get the left and right sorted as i can get 10 yards my near zero point in the shop. now if my thinking is correct if i get it all bang on at ten yards will it also mean that my 30 yard zero will be spot on to.

other wise im stuck trying to zero in the dark when i get there. will be checking zero when there odviosly but dont want to be faffing around to much.

am i right or roung lads.

thanks for any help.

Your pretty much correct there Andy.

However, you need to make sure it is your secondary zero that is at 10 yards and not your primary!

So if your hitting the spot at 10 then move the target out to 15, your pellet should land Higher than the spot. If it does then your 2nd zero is correct and so should your primary zero.

Enjoy the shoot, and if you wanna get scared, come do my cemy with me tomorrow night LOL

Hi Andy,

Just from my own experience pal.

Zeroing at 10 metres is fantastic for close range rats and pigeons mate, but not so good for accurate and precise 25 metres shooting.

Let me explain.

Once you zero at 10 metres and then go out to 25 metres with .22 calibre your pellet impact will be slightly off.

This is due to your rifles power and pellet weight and BC not suiting a perfect 10m and 25m twinned zero points. It’s probably something like 10m and 28 metres or 10 metres and 26 metres etc.

The way to get around this problem and ensure a clean kill at both distances is as follows:

Zero in your shop at a perfect 10 metres (super accurate with every pellet hitting the bull).

Go out tonight and illuminate your target at 25 metres and take 3 steady shots at the bull.

You will 99.9% (fact) find out that you pellet will be slightly off by maybe 1/2 to 1 inch POI, if its not ill eat my hat and please tell me on here i was wrong mate.

Now adjust your POI for the group centre, it only takes about 2 to 3 shots and you will then be bang on at 25 metres.

If you was then to get a close range 10 metres target appear you would still be able to place the cross hair on the target and aim from the cross getting a perfect kill. This is due to the magnification of the scope bringing the target so close at a close range and your cross hair is almost covering a large area of the targets KZ. The pellet will land in the kill zone unless you wobble really bad.

If you was to do it the other way and only zero at 10 metres in your shop then aim at a target at 25 metres you would stand a very high % of wounding or missing the target mate. This is due to errors in zero are magnified at further ranges, added to this is human shooting errors plus the magnification is not bringing the target so close so precise aiming isn’t so easy as at 10 metres.

I hope this helps mate.

you the man si :notworthy::notworthy:

thank you mate new you'd get me on the right track. hence the pm. well that an other things that only me an you no about :whistling:

ill get it sorted so its right at the 25 an 10 mark, as there are some very silly wabbits down there that like to pop out and sniff the barrel every now and again.

the gun was zerod at 30 and from chair gun pro data it should be at a nat nakker from the ten mark.

meseured ten in the shop and it seams ok just off to the left a little. got the lamp mounted at around the 10 30 mark from the scope..

like i say tho just going to have to bite the bit and zero in the flaming dark to get the 25 and ten that you suggest.

again thank you very much for you help si, and phantom.

ps ill try and leave some bunnies for when you guys pop down in dec.

thanks again
