bullmastiff 615
I couldn't decide whether it was worth going out tonight as there was an almost full moon, no wind and -2ºc. I thought their bound to hear me walking across the frosted grass and would be able to see me and my shadow a mile off! In the end I thought bugger it, better out than in so grab me stuff and headed out. Turned out there was a surprising amount of Rabbits out in the fields so managed to get some good runs. Then I spotted two sets of eyes on a far hedge, walked in to them and with a quiet hiss, Tess was gone. For her first ever run behind one I think she did ok, putting pressure on and taking them away from the hedge they were stood against then turning them again before they got to the second hedge then across the field where she managed to stick with them all the way to the wood. I heard a crash and the fence twang from where I was stood at the far corner but Tess came straight back so I guess the crash was them hitting through the woods and the twang of the fence was Tess? Checked her over before I moved on and found she's snapped her dew claw leaving the bottom half of the nail facing out at 45º So night over early! Time to get the damn things off I think? anyone any idea roughly how much it costs? Quote Link to post

bullmastiff 615
Sorry for taking so long to reply. Collie-Grey She's 13month's old now, 24"tts and about 55lb. Although almost physically mature she's still not mentally mature. Up until they migrated she was still chasing the swallows round the field and still even now chases the odd bird's shadow across a field lol! She certainly look's like she could be capable (not that looks prove F. all! lol) and certainly seems keen enough but it'll be a while yet until she see's some proper work and hopefully following a more experianced dog in (Matt, if your reading I'll need the favour returned! lol). I take her out mooching about the hedges/woods with her mum finding their own runs and once/twice a week for 5-6 runs on the lamp then home again. I'm in no rush with her so will probably be next season when she start's hitting into it. Bloody Hell I didn't realise it would cost that much... but I might not have any choice, it looks like she's broken the bone/joint just behind the nail too.... Your right D.H. I should of had it done when she was a pup, but to be truthfull it completely slipped my mind at the time which looks like it's going to come back and bite me in the ass! lol. A few pics of Tess all grown up. Quote Link to post
robo-christ 40
very nice bitch,do you think the mastiff blood in her will make her develop a lot slower than most lurcher's? i know some pure mastiffs often dont mentally mature until they're 3-4 years old. Quote Link to post

Almost sure of it mate, Tia didn't mature properly until about 2yrs so I'm not surprised Tess is taking her time! Quote Link to post
