The measures are contained in new regulations announced today by Minister for the Environment John Gormley. Minister Gormley is making it an offence to use any type of meat, fish or egg as bait to poison birds or animals. Golden eagles, white-tailed eagles and red kites have been re-introduced to counties Donegal, Kerry and Wicklow and some are beginning to breed. SNAP SHOT 194
The farmer has to ensure that the bait is laid where it cannot be accessed by all animals freely, And leaving baited lambs or sheep, or any meat products is an offence, These laws have been in force for years but nothing has been enforced for years, although new regulations and stipulations are also coming into play... Poision's logs have to be kept by the supplier, to say WHO, WHERE, TYPE OF POISION USED AND ACTIVE ingreident, So all can be traced... Snap.
CarraghsGem 92
it does if hes baiting meat eggs or fish.... possible scenario; fox breaks into "farmers" chicken pen, kills all the birds and brings a couple of birds away. next night "farmer" poisons chicken carcass + leaves it out for fox. fox eats carcass and dies nearby. department man or vindictive neighbour hears that he did this..... farmer ends up in court. another scenario; ducks killed, "keeper" believes they were taken by mink, poisons fish heads, thinks no more of it, dead otter found poisoned, department visit + prosecute "keeper"
