well sun was shinning so i figured i text my mate to see if he fancyed a walk around,we arranged to meet up at the golf club

but as i pulled up he rang to say he was running late so i set out for a walk.

within 5 minutes i came across a woodie sat 20 yards up a tree one shot and down he dropped, good start i thought.

well nothing else popped up and by this time my mate had rang to say he was almost there so i headed back to the car where

i spotted another woodie but this one was a good 100 yards out and maybe 40 yards up.....well i tock aim with the aid of a wall

and sat waiting for the wind to drop and it to be in the perfect position and pulled the trigger, well bugger me a hugh plum of feathers puffed up around it as it fell with a thud, just as my mate pulled up,cracking shot he says as he walks over to collect it,seems the shot half plucked it he says :tongue2: any way we heads out and come across a good few squirels, manageing 4 between us.good night and a few bagged made it a nice old walk.

Looking at the entry and exit wounds, I would guess FAC, a tuned rifle too.

The guy is obviously a good shot looking at the placments.

I would say a shot on a pigeon at 100yds is either a kill, or a complete miss.

A shot on a pigeon at 30yds could be hit or miss.

If the guy has the kit, skill, and confidence to take the shot, good luck to him.

Agreed, not a shot your average hunter should attempt.

I think the 40 yds up the tree could be a typo, or there are some buckin great tree's where he live's

:hmm:

Not to sure on this guys post

It all seems a little too much for my way of thinking

If he did make the shot i would like to invite him to shoot with me on the Vermin Sniper DVD :notworthy:

On another note, I did see a rat today the size of a hippo, it looked at my r10 square on and head butted the RWS Super Field back at me ;)

Joke "Thats a tall story too".

If it's a rifle capable of doing that damage at 100 yards, then I personally wouldn't be firing it into the trees.

Even 100 feet away and 40 feet up would be a tough shot, three times that is .17 territory.

Hi Matt.

Firing into the tree's is not a problem, as long as the land you shoot is suitable.

Down to common sense of the shooter I would think.

Let's not presume too much here, give the guy some crdit.

hi lads

i think he's just a irresponsible guy who has no consideration about what he shoots he entered the comp on the www.airgun-hunter.co.uk site ,,he has been shooting canada geese with the same gun i know its not against the law but uts not exactly the right gun to use on canada geese.... here's where he cocked up ... he sent another member a pm asking how to turn the power up on the 410 as it was only shooting 8.4ftp ....so he's been shooting canada geese with an under power gun and now he's taking woodies at 100 yards with the same gun .... makes you wonder what he's up to .....

Hi Gary.

Exactly that mate, we dont know for sure.

Doe's anybody actualy know this chap personaly??

There are many excellent shot's on this forum, some of which have taken some very impressive calculated shot's.

I just dont like to see a guy ripped to shreads for daring to post that he has made a good shot too.

WHETHER THE TARGET WAS ACTUALLY 100 YARDS AWAY AND 40 YARDS IS NOT REALY RELEVANT .WHAT IS RELEVANT IS THAT IT CANNOT BE CLASSED AS A SAFE SHOT ,WHATEVER GUN YOU ARE USING , DUE TO THE ELEVATION ,WIND,POSSIBLE RICOCHET AND IF SHOT COMPLETELY MISSED BIRD BRANCHES ETC WHERE WOULD IT END UP TRAVELLING ( OVER A GOLF COUSRE IN THE EVENING)THIS IS A PUBLIC FORUM WHERE ANYONE WHO WRITES ANY SORT OF ARTICLE SHOULD MAKE SURE IT IS SUITABLE FOR SUCH A PLACE.THIS IS THE KIND OF STORY WHICH DOES NO GOOD FOR ANYONE INVOLVED IN HUNTING IMHO AND SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE SITE BY THE MODERATORS ASAP.

Hi Dogvixen.

So all the previous post's we have seen on here where hunters have taken birds off of Barn roofs, television ariels, tree's, roof top's etc are irresponsible too then?

Or is one rule for one and one for another???

AND THERES NO NEED TO SHOUT !!
