genuine 81
Firstly ive never had this happen to me, and dont know many that have! Ive done a bit reading etc on it but still looking for some advice! Or what you did or know of people doing to help get the dog back on straight and narrow! My bitch is houling at night scratting her bed, looking depressed, off food, enlarged tiits, producing milk, and generally not herself! Ive been told to keep eye on her for swelling round niples, biting and scrating them, feed little, and keep water to a low as it helps produce the milk! Is there any signs i should be aware of for immediate vet treatment? Would i still have to visit vets with dog or just explain and pick up antibiotics? I was going to take her when realised she wasn't eating as much and producing, was told just to watch her over a 4 week period befor vets! Any advice welcome! Cheers! Quote Link to post

Cheers! hi mate i wouldn't worry to much about it,my bitch had a phantom pregnancy about 2 mths ago and the vet said to just let it take it's coarse and it should clear in or around 4wks,but as you have said look out for the milk getting infected,if this happens you will notice around her nipples will be swolen and hard(about the size of a tennis ball maybe a bit smaller)this happened to my bitch when she had a litter and all the vet done was give her an injection and she was fine after about 4-5 days, hope this helps,cheers......john:thumbs: forgot to say,my bitch was a bit depressed but no other symptoms. Guest vin
Ive had this before..and it happened to my mates bitch last year..Dog was off sorts for a few weeks, but after her teats had gone back down..she soon got over it. worse bit was the fact that she was,nt having a litter ..he was almost as gutted as I was. we would have both had new young dogs to start this season. now his bitch is too old and mine is too knacked to have pups. = GUTTED ! jf1970 328
if she is neutered while she is having the phantom pregnancy, she will stay that way,so i was told by my vet:thumbs: Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,250
I have a bitch that produces milk after every season. She is depressed, run down and loses her fur. I have tried every thing I am now getting her neutered. This will solve the problem. Quote Link to post
berty1 8
1 level teaspoon of Epsom salts squidged up in a slice of bread (I did half a teaspoon in half a slice of bread two times, as it was easier for her to get down) then repeat again after 3 days. This will dry the milk up, they shit it and a load of gunk all out. Goodluck Quote Link to post
