Rabbithunter 456
ANy people who know about management out there? anyway, i am an apprentice electrician, served 3.5 years out of 4. and my boss has decided to pay me off. now as an apprentice i thought he has signed me for a 4 year contract (length of apprenticeship) i had no "consultation" as to why i was redundant - only a quick word in the office told me "there is no work" I havent receieved a copy of my contract employment (should of within 8weeks of emplyment ?) I havent got my P45 from him yet. Where do i stand? can i sue him? i have been told he could have broken emplyment regulations by not giving me consultation etc.... also, he is hiring a subcontractor.....when he has said there is no work

Guest oldskool
personally mate i wouldnt go down that road... a new employer will often phone the previous one and you dont want that sort of reference following you around... i would have thought a 3rd year apprentice would have been cheaper to pay than a subcontractor??? what was your time keeping etc like??? i used to be a boxer and when i left school the amount of training i put in i always ended up puttin work second... i dont know how many jobs i went through but i think it was maybe 2-4 in one year... bad time keepin and days off for being too tired always meant that the employer would go lookin for someone else... maybe your putting hunting first?? I agree with oldskool, if you only have 6 months to serve, you're best putting your efforts into finding someone to take you on to see the rest of your time out. "In the case of employed apprentices, if the employer is not able to continue with the apprenticeship, either through redundancy or where the relationship between the apprentice and the employer has broken down, the employer’s terms and conditions of employment will apply" A few years back a lad found himself locked out of the place he was serving his time. He had 9 months left to serve and ended up working where i work via connexions (i think) to see his time out, he got kept on and is still there. Good luck
