littlefish 602
I dug up my potatoes over this past few weeks and was disappointed with this years' crop. They just didn't seem to thrive this year and some of them seemed blighty. Maybe my soil is contaminated now and i'll have to try growing something else next year? On another note, I bought some rose bushes and planted them where I dug the potatoes up from, they are a nice splash of colour and scent in the garden. Does anyone grow flowers as well as veg? littlefish 602
The stems and leaves on some just did not do well despite a promising start. They were well watered as a have a fish pond in the garden and watered them every night with well matured water from it, and sometimes in the day as well. Maybe I watered them too much? I was growing Maris Piper and Vale Emeralds. Some of the poatoes were small, obviuosly still growing, but I pulled them up anyway as I couldn't look at the pathetic stems anymore. I'm really annoyed that they were blighted - i beleive the germ lives in the soil? Very disappointed as great crops in the past few years. Maybe i'll have better luck growing flowers - I have some cracking lillies just ready to pop open any day now. Got a good show of dianthus this year. How does the marigolds control the pests? Maybe i'll get some next year. Watching and waiting for my tomatoes now............

Guest arch1
I'm just about to leave the house to go to my allotment and dig up my second earlies now, they have got the blight. First earlies were ok, main crop seem ok too. The ground has been very dry here for weeks. No water at allotment, so have to rely on rain water off the shed. It's all gone. We all have trouble with blight at our allotments. I didn't get it too bad last year, others did though, now iv'e got it this year. Ho-Hum.
