Ossie n Arch 1,683
Well it's taken nearly a year but tomorrow i'm off for 4 days to Bluebell Managed to beg, borrow and buy enough kit to get by. My mates sorted the bait and most of the kit. Iv'e got plenty of snap and Coffee, so i'll have something to do. Made some rigs up and i'm ready. Would be nice to get one, would be even nicer to catch one bigger than my mates PB, unfortunatly he had a Forty over Easter so might be difficult. Not sure what to expect but i'm gonna give it a good go and enjoy myself. Pictures to follow.................Or not!! Quote Link to post

WILF 49,429
What most folk who dont have much experience dont know is, carp fishing is no different from match fishing, barbel fishing or any other type of fishing. They chuck out a couple of rods and lay down and hope for the best!! You need to work at your angling no matter what it is, if you are sitting there not getting takes then ask yourself "Why Not?" Do I need to move? What type of lake bed am I presenting my baits on?.....is it somwhere they will feed? Where is the other angling pressure and wind direction? Will they follow the wind or sit off in the undertow because the windward bank is packed? Do they want it up in the water, deep or on the top? I have fished for carp for nearly 30 years and you have to learn when to sit on your hands and when you should be working harder. Personally, I never take "NO" for an awnser with my fishing if I think I should be catching. I will wind in, go for a walk with the polaroids, have a plumb about and just generally try and figure it out. The best anglers are working and thinking all the time. Just to add, never be happy that you caught something, ONLY be happy when you know WHY you caught something Edited June 1, 2011 by WILF 1 Quote Link to post

Ossie n Arch 1,683
Thanks guys. This whole trip is a bit strange really. Iv'e been a match angler for most of my fishing career, so trying new things to catch is second nature. Trying to get my head round leaving a bait in the water for X amount of hours without checking it often, is difficult. I dought i'll take Carping up, so this trip could be the one and only trip i do, so i need to be pretty sure i'm doing it as well as i could from the start. My mate has helped me with some of the basics, marker float, clipping up (Which i do when Breaming anyway) and the like. He's fished Bluebell for 2 years and now is a member there, so will have some local knowledge (Hopefully) I'm just going to have a go and do my best. Cheers, Arch Quote Link to post

Cheers, Arch Just use the knowledge you already have matey, bream fishing is pretty much the same as carp fishing except you have to have your terminal set up spot on to catch bream, who are a lot more delicate feeders than carp. Both species feed in a very similar way (suck/blow/tip) Have fun Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,683
Get in !!!!!!!! Unfortunatly that isn't me and it's not my fish either. It's one my mate caught over Easter. Arrived early Thursday and got set up. Fish showing all over the lake, looked promising. Thursday night, nothing. Then Friday and Saturday the lake went dead, even the wildlife seemed quiet and early Sunday morning the fish started spawning, so that would explain the slowness ?? Packed up and went over to watch. It's quite a sight to watch 11 30 pounders (Mates estimate not mine) swimming around ten foot away. Despite not catching, i had a good time. Not sure i'll do it again, but i enjoyed it.
