the national trust

Recommended Posts

just wondering if any members had approched the national trust for ferreting permission ? i read on their website that they do allow falcontry to control rabbits, i have permission on land which borders their property but the rabbits are cute enough and all live on the trust side of the fence, there's a huge population of them there, which are destroying crops.

i could be wrong but i always thought landowners had an oblacation to control pests on thier land if they were causing hardship to neighbours ?

I got permission from a warden who lived on a national trust property but he was quite a sound guy if you cant get permission i'd try a line of snares up your side of the fence

Hi Lawrence,

The 1954 Pests Act used to give farmers the right to enforce their neighbours to control any rabbits that were entering on to their land but unfortunately this was scrapped fairly recently. Nobody is now legally obliged to keep rabbits under control, but that doesn't stop you from asking them. It might be worth a try - especially if you emphasise the damage that is being done (or better still, ask the land owner to explain for you).

Good luck!

I have prmission on a National Trust property  due to the tennant holding the sporting rights ie has a syndicate on the place, any tennant of any land can give you permission to take rabbits its usually in their lease that they have to control vermin on the land they're leasing
