nessie122 0
Hi, Can anyone tell me how many rounds they would expect to fire through a clean barrel on a centrefire rifle before they would notice the accuracy being affected, can one of the target shooters tell me how often they clean their centrefire barrels. Bootsha 1,306
If your going to zero your rifle, after cleaning it, shooters in competitions are allowed 3 fouling shots before they get down to real shooting, clean it after every time you use it mate, same as any other gun. Keep the rifeling clean and it'll spin your bullet more effectively, so straighter shooting, So better accuracy, hope this helps. PS Every now and then, put some solvent designed for the job , down the tube to get all the copper residue out good and proper. ATB B Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
Hi mate, 22/250 Is a fast round, As with most centrefires clean after every use, and every 50 rounds or so i use a good copper cleaning routine to get rid of any unwanted buildup of copper, and also carbon, As if left too long your gonna spend quite a while scrubbing. Use a light oil if your storing your gun for any length of time, and clean out with a dry patch before you go to shoot. Always try a achieve a cold bore Zero, when zeroing your gun, as thats the shot that counts in a hunting situation. try hoopes no. 9 for carbon and general cleaning, also nitro 303, And either forrest foam, or sweets 7.62 for copper, sweets should not be left in the bore for NO MORE THAN 10 to 15 mins max.... and give a good patch out then. You may have to get rid of layers of carbon then try copper, then carbon again, use a nylon, or phospher bronze brush, and do a little scrubbing..... hope this helps Snap. Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
after shooting my 22/250 i just dry patch it out till its clean. then every 15 to 20 shots i use carbon cleaner and bore polish. this removes the top layer of copper so they say. well leaving some in the barrel. so the next cold bore shot is still on target. then every 40 to 50 ish rounds i use the proper carbon remover. and degreaser to flush the barrel then a bit of oil at the end when stored i use the kg stuff or butchers boreshine Edited June 2, 2010 by jamie g Quote Link to post
clint 45
I no longer have 22-250. As gent say above , very fast bullet, i give good clean after 50 maybe shot, & alway use bore snake after 5 bullet shot. This keep rifle very accurate. Quote Link to post
