As some of you are aware i've been watching an earth of cubs for the last week or so. I was there this morning, suddenly i was joined by an elderly gentleman who lives behind the church in the village. He approached me and asked what i was doing. Long story short . . . . we got chatting about the cubs, he then told me he had a vixen and cubs at the end of his garden. He went on to explain how he thought some of the cubs may have died as there appears to only be one left, out of the origional 3, which he watches from his potting shed. He told me i was more than welcome to use the shed to photograph the cub . . . .

So i went back with him straight away. His garden is huge and quite wild at the bottom, backing onto the church yard and open farmland, only a 15 minute walk from the earth i've been watching. Three quarters of the way down is an ancient potting shed, so having a poke around and listening to where he said the cub came out i settled myself in the shed. The back wall of the shed facing the earth has a hole in the log lap, where a panel has slipped . . . so with a little "tweeking" . .. the hole become camera lens size! :clapper:

I waited for about 40 mins, getting fidgety and bored stuck in a shed!! Suddenly i noticed a movement and looked up to see a tiny cub poking its head out of the shrubbery . . . It seemed very relaxed and after another 10 mins or so, very boldly came out and romped around the garden without a care in the world! I could not have had a better vantage point, it was a photographers dream!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: Every shot i took just got better and better, he was oblivious to my presence and although occasionally stopped to look in my direction when he heard the shutter go, didn't spook once. :toast: :toast:

I watched the little dude for over an hour, happily playing alone and seemingly quite content. From the look of him and the way he behaved i'd say he's a couple of weeks younger than the other cubs, and as the man said appears to be on his own.

I will definately visit him again over the coming weeks, hopefully he'll stay around and alive.

I've called him "billy" . . because of his distinct lack of mates!

Thank you for all the kind comments, it was certainly 10 times easier capturing this one than the others! The shed needs a bit of padding to improve comfort but i'm working on it for future shoots!

The old gentleman who's garden its in, has become like a stalker, he popped round half an hour ago to see the photos and asking if i'm going back tomorrow! :clapper: Love him, i'll do him some prints as a thank you.
