Squirrel_Basher 17,103
Down at Martins yesterday evening for a stalk and as usual he never failed with the buck .Scanning a valley, where he has a cracking bit of ground ,we spotted a buck and doe about 350 -400 yards away from our parking position .Martin said to take it from here as long shots are the modern way to go apparently ,lol.I declined, naturally, as thats not my forte'.Walked down to the stream and stalked up and around a rise to get somewhere handy.I crawled to a mound that commanded a good view and could see our victim bedded in the long grass .Martin had the video camera that we hoped to get a bit of footage on but tonight Martin had forgot his reading glasses so couldnt see the screen properly. As a result what followed was commical to say the least . I crawled a bit forward to get a full view and saw the doe couched below me .The buck was approx 150 yards away id say but lead down .After looking back to check that Martin was on the case ,i lined up for a neck shot and duly despatched the buck neatly on the spot .Martins camera rolled on the downed buck and we waited a moment before moving in .Martin then commented on the lack of movement from the buck when it was shot which i thought was a bt odd as it kicked for quite a while .Making in ,Martin walked towards a different spot to where the buck was and it then dawned on us that hed been videoing a log all the time .A bit of leg pulling later ,well quite a bit really , the camera finshed the sequence on my now still dead buck :clapper: The light was going now so we sat up for a squeak to try for a charlie here but only saw another buck and doe in the gloaming. The buck still lives to be stalked another day . Wide span on that buck Rather you find out the lamp is fecked now than miles from the car... not that those batteries give you much notice. "There's a gateway here somewhere..." Quote Link to post
