kev2010 8
A trick that woked for me was to get the dog excited, throw the dummy.then when he picks it up start moving backwards until he reaches you.then stop.then give him whichever command you use to give you the dummy.Do this a few times then give it a rest.Do it again next training session.A little & often is the key.Dont rush or loose your rag,but lots & lots of praise or treat when hes doing good. Hope this helps.Let me know how you go on.Thanks,Kev.

kev2010 8
so once that is sorted when do i enter the rabbit skin dummy? Hi Water Badger.Glad to hear that worked for you.Id wait until he's retrieving balls, toys,or a dummy to hand consistantly. Then try the rabbit skin dummy.Do remember though every time you give the dog something new to retrieve hell probably run round with it like something gone daft for the first half dozen times, until he gets used to it & the novelty wears off.Again this will also happen when he starts to catch rabbits, even though hes used to the dummy its not like chasing & catching the real thing, just dont let him munch them up. With one of mine i let him carry the rabbit while we walked the fields keeping him at my side, just correcting him if he had a munch. As i said before dont loose your rag if its not working, try again next day.Takes time & patience & keep it fun.And as was by one of the lads keep other dogs away while your doing this, just the two of you.Hope this helps some more & good luck. Please let me know how you go on (pm me if you ant to). Thanks,Kev.
