Collie Crosses

My own preference would be the 3/8,s 5/8,s , they have more wind and they are a more durable type of dog than the 3/4 bred, yes the 3/4 bred should have more pace, but to me thats all, my old pal Craig Prior from Cannock had a fine example of the 3/8,s 5/8,s breeding called Joe, this dog consistently caught a good number of hares both in the daytime and on the lamp, Craig bred this dog himself, and the lines originated from my old pal Typp Ratcher, and this dog was well known throughout Cannock and the surrounding areas, i believe Bird off this site witnessed this dog run on several occassions and was very impressed with him. regards collie john.

I think a well bred 5/8 3/8 you have got the best of both worlds ,brains ,stamina ,and speed.THE 3/4 bred are a most of the time a faster dog but lack stamina in my experiance ,and the feet not as good.I have had a fast 1/2 cross which could kill winter hares singlehanded, which i bred from to a 3/4 bred bicth to produce a 5/8 3/8.I think if you lamp places where there is lots of game in big numbers i dont think the 3/4 bred as the recoverey rate to keep run rabbit after rabbitt compared to a half bred or 5/8 3/8.THEY IMPRESSIVE early on in the night when they are fresh ,but i ended up carrying a 3/4 dog on my shoulder ,when my young 5/8 3/8 JOE ,WAS STILL RUNNING STRONG.You wont get a 100 metre sprinter to run a marathon and thats fact.

i would have thought if you were running best of 3 pre ban a 3/4grey1/4collie

would have enough stamina  most coursing greyhound run 3 coursers

so that bit of collie should be enough :clapper:

DOSNT WORK LIKE THAT MATE ,I WISH IT DID BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE THE MORE HOUND IN THEM THE LESS STANIMA ,AND POOR FEET THEY HAVE.Breed good collie lurcher to collie lurcher to produce chance of best of both worlds.COLLIE JOHN HAD A REVERSE 3/4 BRED WICH COULD KILL HARES ,SO REALLY ITS NOT LIKE MIXING PAINT,END OF THE DAY WHEN YOU BREED OFF WORKER TO WORKER ITS STILL ONLY A CHANCE OF GETTING A GOOD DOG.Alot of people think collie crosses ara to clever at times ,some can be but you can get alot of other crosses can be the same,it all down to how you bring them on from a early age not giving them to much.COLLIE CROSSES ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE BUT FOR ME THEY HAVE ALOT TO OFFER,YOU CANT BE TO HARD ON THEM AND YOU HAVE GOT TO GET TO KNOW HOW THEY THINK, IF YOU WONT JUST A POINT AND AIM DOG DONT HAVE A COLLIE CROSS BECAUSE YOUR NOT GOING TO USE THEM TO THERE FULL POTENTIAL BY USING THEM AS A LAMPING DOG ,FERETTING ,MOOCHING,SHOOTING ,DAY AND NIGHT SHOOTING,LONG NETTING AND MOST OF ALL COMPANION DOG.

my mate had a 1/8collie rest greyhound easily ran 4 hares

so think if i had a 1/4bred that couldnt wouldnt be in the kennel

so its a case of should be able to do 3courses or might aswell have a greyhound

in my book

and the bitch my mate had ran on rippingale fen against saluki xs

This one's very roughly 3/4 bred (slightly less in reality) and has decent stamina, decent feet and runs some truly horrific ground on a daily basis. Not a hare dog per se, more of a big game courser but he manages ok. A big lad at 70lb+ and certainly not a dainty fella.
