irishnut 297
not sure if you hound lads would class him as being from your stable, he is a fox hound x collie/bull/grey, amazing nose on him, great stamina, and quick. and only 8.5 month does anyone else run a similiar dog. he's in line to be my bolting fox dog. cúagusgiorraí 57
He looks great. Does he open up on scent? I am sure he would be dead handy on the open ground as well, maybe even catch. Its definately worth trying the bogs Are you able to keep up with this dog once he is on a scent? Quote Link to post

irishnut 297
keeping up isnt a problem, he runs at a steady pace while scenting, not too fast, until he see's what he is after, he hasnt got owt yet, as i say he's really young. he's quite bidable aswell, except around my terrier, his top enemy lol, plenty of bogs around me, another reason i got him. Rocky2 14
I know a few lads keep hounds with collie blood in them and they are brillint, they say it gives the hound more speed while hunting and they are better for cover. Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
Up to maybe 15 or 20 years ago the hound cross lurcher was common enough in Ireland with some of the best known coursing men liking the cross. If I remember correctly Kellys well known bitch Chorus was part beagle and she was a well known killer of hares. JMHO but if you need to cross hounds with the likes of collie to make them better in covert then your using the wrong hounds. Quote Link to post
