johnboy19 38
I went to my new permission yesterday. Theres a decent sized rookery on it and the farmer would like rid. Its on a small tree line with open land on each side. There's no branchers out as yet, but i could hear them. Anyway, as I thought would happen, whenever i got near they would all scarper and circle above. Obviously this is an easy job with a shotgun, but a very hard job with an airgun. Anyone got any tips on how to approach this? Would setting up in hide underneath help? Or is it a lost cause? Cheers, John Quote Link to post
Dakaras 3
Set up in hide below or well covered a good hour before day break at least, softly softly on the approach, they wont know your there Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
A hide would be good, certainly not a lost cause John. Go get em Phantom Quote Link to post
LOGUNSOLO177 0
I have had great success with a homemade hide!! That was the only way me and a friend could get them!! Quote Link to post
bedrock 16
If you know your boundaries it sounds like a good opportunity for some dawn silhouette shooting. Quote Link to post
johnboy19 38
Cheers for the replies lads. I like the look of that home made hide, might give it a go. I suppose I was stupid asking if it is a lost cause, its all down to learning, cant expect to just go and bag them all first time i go eh? If that was the case everyone would be an expert Quote Link to post
Lee85 44
i'd be tempted to try a decoy as well mate- works well for me, also i've never tried this but even a stuffed teddy is meant to get them down if it's near their nesting area, good luck Quote Link to post
johnboy19 38
what about an owl decoy anyone ever used one? Was thinking of maybe setting up a hide and attaching the owl decoy to a fence post, near where they nest. Quote Link to post
johnboy19 38
what do you guys think of this, was thinking i could set it up on a hill infront of the nests, in range, and try and pop them from there http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BASHA-BASHER-BIVVY-BIVOUAC-ARMY-TENT-SHELTER-POLES-/150424578188?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item230600e88c#ht_3433wt_941 Quote Link to post
