danebrewer10 6
I just thought I'd share my surprise with you all. My mum had just chucked out an old non stick frying pan where the coating had come off, so I though i'd turn it into a swinging target, the base being a handy 10.5" in diameter, so I cut the rim off and drilled out the rivets holding the handle on et voila! one target. I experimented first by sticking it in the ground, propping it up with a pricker at 30m and shooting it with my O/U with a 36gm AAA cartridge, I was surprised to say the least when there were quite large dents in the metal as well as a bulge at the back, the plate went down in a short! in total it got hit full on by 4 pellets and about 3 more bounced off the ground and hit it but much less hard huh? well what about those other 4 holes apart from the dents you ask.... well that is where the real surprise came in!- having shot it with my beretta, I decided to shoot it with my HMR using federal V-shok 17gn v-max. so I loaded up with 5 rounds (jiggled one into the chamber before closing the bolt and then inserting the magazine) and stood at 75m, (I though 100 might have been pushing it a bit) and tried my hand a standing un supported, so I shot away and I think I recall I could see something when the bullet hit, or at least tell the difference between a plate hit and the one that went in to the dirt below it, one making a 'plink' sound and the other a 'whop' sound. so I made my way to the plate and imagine my surprise when I saw that the bullets had gone all the way through!! I think my exact words were "holy shit! oh my god they went all the way through!" or something like that. well here's the back side of the target- I had thought it was solid stainless, but it turns out to be a sandwich of 3/4mm stainless steel then about 6mm of aluminuim and then another 3/4mm of steel. I don't know how the bond the sheets together but they do somehow. as you can see it peeled the back side of steel off! plus it made a giant hole in the plate much bigger than the diameter of the bullet, I did actually find a small bit of the aluminium an first skin of steel that had been pushed through by the bullet, i didn't find any bullet fragments though as they must have just fragmented. Aaron Proffitt 142
I believe the HMR is one of the most underestimated and misunderstood rounds to come our way in some time.... Quote Link to post
