Squirrels

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

My mate has just bought an Air Rifle and i was going to take him up onto my small syndicate so he could drop a few Squirrels.

Question is:

I have a hide built and we will be hiding in it. Will i just put a post in the ground and smear it with peanut butter or what do i use to attract them to this spot so he can snipe them ?

Any advice welcome.

I've not bated them in before but I have read of it done over a few days using nuts in a feeder topped up every few days for a week or so then you will have an established feeding area to hit. I not sure if putting the bait out when you arrive will have a great affect as a number of squirrels would need to find it before it became a firm spot to snipe. As always there is no harm in trying it out perhaps a bit of peanut butter on a number of trees out to 35yards to increase the likelyhood of it being found. Good luck with it let us know the results.

i always find early morning is best for them they are the most active then, you can go late afternoon but you time is cut off when it gets dark. they are out pretty much all day but defo early morning is when they are most active and will be looking for your bait. Looking forward to the write up from you trip.

The fox will find them...especially at this time of year when he has a family to feed!!

i have never bated up for them but i have sniped them you just need to find the most active area (usaly were they are feeding)on your permition then just get stashed and keep an eye out you will soon seen them.or park your ass close to the drays at this time of year they are in and out all day. but remember you will be leaving young to starve to death.
