sibaldib 6
great tips si. i often have trouble juding wind and have missed a few shots where i on a windless day i would have the quarry down. si, does wind effect more on a .22 or .177 cal pellet? great tips si, was gona put a wind indicator near my warrens but wasnt sure if it would spook the bunnies or not?? i guess after a while they would get used to it?? sorry to jump in but si is away from a pc for 3 weeks now i think if he managed to get his flight?? but a .22 is worse in the wind as it has a larger surface area and is (same legal limit gun) travelling slower than a .177. Hi Alex. You been at the Cyder again The old .22 is larger yes, and travels slower, but its far better in the wind, because of its weight. The .177 nip's along and is quicker, but more affected by wind because its so light. thats if they are are shot with the same FPS. ATB. Bill. Bill, I was always under the impression that this was the case. However the other day, when sport was a bit slow, I set up my Hw100 KT in .22 and my AA TDR in .177. They're both putting out about 11.4 ft/lb using Air Arms Field pellets. I fired at clods of earth at both 30 yds and 40yds and with a 10 to 15 mph wind I was having to give about two to three inches of windage with the .22 and hardly anything at all with the .177. I have to say it suprised me, so I tried it again last night with exactly the same result. Checked on the chrono when I got home and both were exactly the same on power. This is only my practical experience but I'm sticking with this theory for future use. Cheers Sib Quote Link to post

I suppose the real difference's woud show up over greater ranges, more than normal huunting ranges of 30/40 yds. You would also think that the .177 having a flatter trajetory, and traveling about 150fps faster than a .22 would be better. Its a funny old world. Bill. Quote Link to post
