Young Rabbits

Recommended Posts

Just thought it would be interesting to see how the rabbits are breeding.

Usually see baby rabbits out running around in the fields from mid January onwards here in Cornwall, but this year they were about a month behind presumably due to the cold winter delaying mating and probably finishing off more bunnies than usual.

What have you seen about?

The cold winter might mean less rabbits, breeding a little later than usual. This could lead to a very prolific breeding season if there is less competition and if the cold winter killed off the fleas then mixy might not be so bad this year.

If you are looking to wipe out rabbits from a problem area then now is the time as numbers may be low to start with. If you are hoping for MORE rabbits then leave them in peace for a few months now and you may be pleasantly surprised!

Same here we where quite happily ferreting away thinking we where going to catch up on the time we lost with the snow and we suddenly hit small rabbits running out the nets no sign of pregnant does ect in the weeks before hand . Looks like its going to be a productive year number wise in some places

Iv not seen any babies or youngsters at all here in the new forest. Mixy well and truely f****d um round here most of last year. Iv seen good numbers about in places that were pretty much devoid of rabbits just a month or so back so things ARE improving here but iv not seen any younguns. Its nice to see um bouncing back, i did think we were in for a tough year this year but my hopes have been raised by my recent sightings.

Was out just before xmas and bolted a few young ones but think the snow took care of them as not seen any young in that area since, on our other permissions it was late jan early feb before we were catching does with young in them and prob early march when bolted our first young one.

But one thing i have noticed that with our permissions being upto 45 miles apart you notice how one area you can have young but know it be atleast another 6 to 8 weeks before the next area will have them,

has anybody else came across this.
