NORELATION 6
Hello im new to the forum. I was wondering about your prefferences for breeding first crosses. should the dam be the racy parent (i.e greyhound or whippet etc) or the sire? does it matter if the bitch is smaller than the dog? eg breeding a big greyhound to a wheaton or small collie or whippet. do you think this effects the size of the pups and the side of the breeding they take to? What are your experiences and prefferences. Quote Link to post
johndogs 7
most of us say always breed from a greyhound bith to a collie dog or what ever first cross you want but i have bread from a collie bitch to greyhound dog. and pure bull bitch to a whippet dog pups all turned out nice size so it dont matter i think. but every one to there own hope it helps a bit Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
It depends on the cross as a grey/beddy will never be the beddy dam.Just going on wat i have seen over the years better dogs have seemed to be bred [bANNED TEXT] the greyhound sire has been used Quote Link to post

whin 463
me personaly , work the greyhound bitch test her breed form her if good enough then you get your pup , and work them , a good collie bitch to a grew dog works as she can bring the pup on as the mother , i have saw a few good collie lurchers were the mother was the collie , saw one in suffolk twenty years a go he was called lucky 25 plus inches of dog he took the lot , the guy who had him was d wright of lieston suffolk a real dog in any mans write , it was mustard on rabbs foxes and other game , he was bred in the suffolk area 1987 ,to a black greyhound dog to a colie bitch dog was a legend saw it take 24 rabbits 2 hares one nite on the horrible shingle ,he was a hardy dog , thre guy never bred of it as he , didnt have the time back then but he was agood dog ,yet to see a , i saw it in 1990 and made my hancock look second rate , at times he was a star Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
Out of the 3 quarter bred lurchers i have owned and seen the ones [bANNED TEXT] the greyhound sire has been use always tended to have more stamina makeing me think is stamina inherited mainly from the bitch. The sister to the noted f1x beany saluki/ballyreagan bob was more stamina packed than f1x bred the other way around or so i was told.atb dell Quote Link to post
Trigger 26
i always like the greyhound to be the dog in first crosses, i think it produces more good pups than using the grey for the mother. Quote Link to post
