SAJ 0
How do all, After reading through loads of posts and learning some valuable information, I've got a few questions of my own. I've had a Jill albino now for a few weeks, I've worked it a couple of times, its bolted a few rabbits, but due to lack of experience I didn't manage to net them. Anyway, some of the most valuable information I've gathered, is the season for rabbiting, it makes perfect sense not to work it now, due to the young rabbits being easy prey etc, so whast do you lads do with the ferrets over the summer months to keep them in good healthy condition, I'm still very much tempted to work it untill the back end of the month. I've deffinately got the bug for it, even my daughter has took a shine to the ferret, and she's now becoming part of the clan. Cheers. Quote Link to post
kobi2k4 2
to keep mine fit dureing the off season, i just make sure theres plenty of room with plenty of pipes and tubes for them to run around in, also feeding them on diffrent levels with only climbing or pipes to get there dose this, and keep on interacting with them and handleing them. as you said from now till september/oct is not really any good for ferreting, as there will be too meny lay ups and ul be digging loads. glad you and your fam are enjoying and hope u have a good time with ur new found friend ATB Danny Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
kobi2k4 has got it about right there mate but for you and the family it's time to get to a few game fairs and look round at the different bits of kit available i.e. net sizes and materials etc or find the ferret welfare society stand, chat to all these people they're usually very knowledgable and you can learn a lot....one tip, don't pretend to be an expert, you'll make a prat of yourself within minutes ATB Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Also another jill to keep yours company might be a good idea, they are social animals and they will also keep each other active and you amused by playing. atb Jai. Quote Link to post
The one 8,585
Post up your location mate and see if theres anybody local to you who will show you how to net up properly .And you can let your ferret run about the garden during the summer to keep fit . Quote Link to post
SAJ 0
Cheers for some good information there lads, I think another Jill will deffinately be sort after in the very near future. I get the impression the ferret I've got now is itching to be worked now, I dont think it will be wise to work her now, but I just find it a little frustrating not to allow her to do what she's bred to do naturally. I'm living in the North East of England, Sunderland. Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
I know it's tempting mate but don't try and work your ferret at this time of year, you'll get no end of lie ups......it can be bloody hard work........particularly if you're new to the game . ATB Quote Link to post
max abell 196
Also dont overlook if its a jill you have keep an eye on her coming into season if she is or when she does its adviseable to get her taken out of season either by the jill jab or a loan of a vasectomised hob As ideation said keep 2 if you have the room cos ferrets are very sociable and keep each other company i wouldnt bother ferreting this time of year you will be forever digging good luck mate Quote Link to post
