LDR 29
Right then at the minute i have a canon 450d, i've only had it a few months and like the camera, but i'm now starting to get the camera bug so want to upgrade to something better before i start shelling out on lenses and extras for this one!!! So what i want is a camera body that'll not need to be upgraded and that i can add plenty of lenses onto it over time?? i'm thinking of something around the £1000 mark if that helps narrow it down??? Hannah4181 260
The Canon EOS 550D is meant to be an excellent camera, you'll get it for under £1000 but by buying a bundle to include a lens you'd be up to budget. I shoot Nikon so am no Canon expert, but i've heard a lot of good stuff about the 550D. Darcy or Muttle will be the ones to put you right with Canon.
Coyotehunter 689
Hey LDR , take a look at the 50D, you'll be amazed at the jump in build quality and performance from the xxxD to a xxD is a huge jump, i'm from the UK but live in Canada but i don't know what prices are like back home but i know you can get a good used or refurbished 50D for around $700 to $900 that roughly converts to around 350 to 450 quid, well worth it, if i had the option of a used 50D or a new 550D (T1I over here) i'd go for the 50D every time, and all your lenses will fit, just my humble opinion
MuttleMcTuttle 21
The 550D is a new model and has good reviews so far. It has more MP than the 450D, but that's not necessarily a good thing when it comes to noise at high ISO settings. I'd have a look at the 50D, I think you'll find it's a much more robust camera than the 550D, but consequently heavier and bulkier. If you decided to go for either of these cameras you would have change left out of £1000 to put towards a good lens. As far as lenses go all the Canon lenses will fit on the crop sensor cameras (450, 550, 50D etc) but don't try and use an EF-S lens, dedicated for the crop sensor cameras on a full-frame body like the 5D or 1D cameras or they will be the most almighty shattering noise inside the camera when you fire the shutter... If you can raise a bit more cash the 7D (which is getting cheaper all the time) is also worth a look, specially if you're into action shots. Another possibility is a used 5D, but that's a bit of a step backwards when it comes to settings and features (no pop-up flash, no snazzy pre-set modes, no sensor clean feature, rather naff LCD screen etc) but holding it's S/H price because it still delivers superb quality images and is a favourite with landscape and wedding photographers. 5Dmk2 is the dog's bollocks, but a bit out of your price range... Also, the 5Ds are full frame, so any EFS lenses you have will be redundant. Personally I'd go for the 50D (or is there a 60D out now!) and upgrade the lenses. One thing that will be noticeable with a better camera is any shortcomings a lens may have... Not so obvious with crop sensors because they only use the best bit of the glass, but with the bigger sensor any loss of sharpness towards the edges of the lens will be noticeable. A camera body that won't need upgrading for several years is a nice thought, but alas it sometimes seems as if they're bringing out a new "better" (and horribly expensive) model every few months. A good lens is always a good investment though, and won't devalue anything like as much as a camera body.

J Darcy 5,871
No contest mate....7D..its £1100, but coming down all the time. I shoot a 50D and i am happy with it, but its a bit knackered now after a full day in the rain. I would have another 50D in a shot, but thinking of a 7D this summer.... J Darcy 5,871
Word of caution...do a google search on the campany before you buy. Lots of people getting ripped off with camera gear. They even say they are a reputable UK comapny. always do a search. Avoid Simply Electronics too. I had a nightmare. Total sodding nightmare.
Hannah4181 260
I'll second that . .. simply electronics are total knob heads with no knobs, avoid like the plague. Camera world based in chelmsford or london, they do mail order as well, on the other hand are great!
