Yeah I reckon BTO is a fair shout, I've been scouring the BTO site for a list of registered codes to no avail, hoping to get an email bak from them tomorrow to fill in the blanks

Tis TM 8
Thanks Dotty Had an email back this morning - alot quicker than I expected! You were right on the BTO and TRING bit Darcy... I have sent him some more info, but this was his mail any way: Dear Toni, Thank you very much for your report on this bird. I have had a look at your great photos and it looks like the ring probably says BTO Tring England ...399... This size of ring should have 6 digits all together. We have all the information here at the BTO with reference to the ringing details of birds but it is not possible to get the full history electronically at the moment. Could you tell me where abouts in the country you are as this will help me to find out what the ring number should be? Also the dates on which these photos were taken and your address would be very helpful if I am able to get the full ring number. For more information on the Ringing Scheme, please see our leaflet: http://www.bto.org/ringing/resources/displays/bird-ringing09.pdf Best wishes Lee

Tis TM 8
It cant be very comfortable no ... I saw it briefly today and the tick is bigger still, but amazingly the birds eye still looks healthy... It must be just under the lid or something
J Darcy 5,871
shame you couldnt catch the bird and remove it...
J Darcy 5,871
Problem being Dotty is not everyone has or knows how to set a misty. Besides it was always my belief that mist nets are banned and a person that has a mist net about their person is guilty by association, just the same as if you have as set of badger tongs. I could be wrong on this and i will stand corrected.....
J Darcy 5,871
Well, let me know if i am incorrect .....Cheers..JD
