davyt63 1,845
hi every one as i finished early today,i thought i would get out for a couple of hours. before the heavy rain came! i got over to the farm by 2:30pm as i drove in i see a couple of Bunny,s by the hedge and a big Ole crow on the sitty tree. so switched of the engine and grabbed me bag ,pulled out my AAS410K .177 but it had gone to slow i was! so got all me kit up together and walked through the integral corridor, and see 2 magpies in the garden where i got the last one! so slowly opened the door, brought up the AAS410K .177 but they had clocked me and off they went! anyways i had a walk around, and settled in the front field where i spotted the bunny's before. i had to make room for me self, so got out me pruner's and pruned a couple of branches and brambles so i could get a good sniping spot! as i sat here for a good hour and 1 missed shot! that big Ole crow came over and landed on a telegraph pole, which runs parallel with the hedge. i ranged him @ 42yds up came my AAS410K slowly dose it, i had the mag set @ 8 on the MTC mamba 4-16X50 locked on THWACK! down it came. i wish i had put the video on it now as it was giving a good Ole cawing! before its demise! where it fell and this is my size nine, told you it was a big Ole crow! after this i went for another walk around and settled in the metal hut at the back of the property,i had moved some timber which was up against it ,so as i could have 2 sniping points. one for birds and another for bunny's but was limited on range on the bunny's sniping point. but loads of room for the birds i was sat here for about 45 minutes and 2 pigeons landed in the trees 2.5 mildots holdover away up came the combo of MTC & AA THWACK! down it came stone dead! its buddy flew of to another tree not more than 3 meters away combo up again THWACK!! it joined its buddy on the ground dead,in the hedge so out came the pruner's again where it fell and where its buddy fell shot placement @ 59yds me tinks could of been 20mil higher but all the same it was taken humanly where it fell from where it was shot from,if you look closer you can see the half circular metal hut where i was in a kneeling position when i took the shot and some video footage! of the where! when! why, me tinks there is a parrot on my shoulder if you listen carefully! well after these 2 great shots! i headed back in to the front field where i had a made up hide! and it started to hammer down so out came me poncho and i sat it out! in the 2 hours i was there i missed 3 bunny's all at 40/43 yds could not believe it, after the shots i just took not much more happend after this i went for a last mooch of the field and saw nothing, so headed back to me van and home for me dinner! group photo happy hunting davy Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Hi Davy friend, That’s some fantastic shooting there buddy, 59 yards is equal to 53.49 metres which is an ace shot for a humane kill like that. I don’t think that there is that many sub 12 FP air rifle hunters except for the top FT and HFT lads and lasses that could take a woody in the head at 54 metres as humanly as you did there buddy, so very well done mate. Just goes to show yet again, and I have been saying this for many years now that not all the experts in the magazines are 100% correct all of the time. How many times have you read that a sub 12 FP rifle shouldn’t be used on live vermin at ranges in access of 35 yards, 32 metres as the low power will cause wounding? Yes this is true to an extend of if you miss a kill zone the animal will be wounded and be in distress but isn’t that so at 10m, 15m or any range with an air rifle? Id say yes. Its all about knowing your own shooting capabilities and holding back if you know that you cant kill the animal as its to far for your own capabilities I think. I have always argued that if your shooting and marksmanship is up to it like yours obviously is Davy, then the sub 12 FP rifle will kill very humanely out to 55 metres and a couple of metres more in perfect conditions. Well done again mate You’re a top bloke and shot Si Quote Link to post
