well according to the news shock collars are now illegal in wales and anyone proved to be using one can be prosecuted!

me personally i've never used one but i beleive in the right hand's they can be a genuine training aid for the more stubborn breeds, so i would just like to thank Esther Rantsen for starting all this bollox along time ago with the introduction of child line, we can no longer reprimand our children incase they say "i'll call child line" lol, i wonder how long it will be before some ageing TV personality champions a new phone line to "confidentially grass you up" for your training methods.

first wales then the WORLD!!!!

Works well on my kidswhistling.gif. I have all way had a electric collar and would not be with out one. I have over a 1000 acres and loads a sheep and lamps to look after, So it`s a must that my dogs from a young age know not to go near sheep or cows from the age of 5 mths old.

but i know it not for every one.

they are banned in germany too with the exemption of police dog handlers and people who have a hunting licence. anybody else who wants one has to do a course.

the newer ones are very humane and you are right they are a good training aid for dogs of all breeds.

if you want one then buy it soon

Typical Knee jerk ban it without knowing what its about reaction

I was given a hell of a good guard dog German Shepherd The only problem was he to a taste to sheep ,and he was a demon at it,talk about a problem as we were running 2,500 sheep then.and he was shit hot around the Yard, tried all the old and trusted methods, problem was he was three Year old when we had him and I think he had done it before,

coming up to lambing it was major headache, come to the point of the big farm in the sky or else, seen the add for the collars and bought one followed the instructions to the letter,a Month later I was actually moving sheep with him.

Best laugh with him though was when someone come to the door early one morning ,he always use to perch on the pillar outside(like the one in my avatar) he pounced on him knocking him to the floor the bloke actually pissed himself.

The dog died at Fourteen the shock collar never did him no harm.

You will probably see more dogs being passed on or shot now.

obviously you used the collar in the way it was intended, as a training aid, and it worked :clapper: , and your right there is now going to be more dog's passed on as "bad dogs" because their owner didn't have the option of an extra training aid (shock collar).

i know their not for everyone but I would genuinely try EVERYTHING before I got rid of my dog and I just think it's another piece of legislation "on the band wagon" leading upto this election because let's face it dog's are the hot topic at the moment and we're ALL going to suffer in the long term.

Shock collars are for dog handlers who want instant results, traing a dog not to do something takes time, shocking him doesnt train him!!!

Totally agree as you can see from my post, when all other methods fail or you inherit a problem dog,it was the only time I have had to use one, however a good tool if used correctly.

When You have a dog from a puppy You should not have to use one of these providing You have spent the time TRAINING it properly, unfortunately not everyone spends enough time training there dog,and wonder why it fails, and ends up being past from pillar to post.If having to use one of these means that cuts down on that,I would personally prefer the later.

Is this opinion formed from your actual experience? My actual experience is that they are actually successful at stopping nuisance barking that upsets the actual neighbours, when no other method could, thus saving my dogs from the needle.

Did you have your actual dogs from pups and did you spend actual time with them training them basic manners for example not to bark when in the kennel, every dog i have ever owned has learnt that time not spent with me is best spent sleeping. If you do inherit a problem older dog i dare say that with perseverence and patience and a little bit of understanding any dog of any age can be taught these basic manners.

Yes, good dogs otherwise, trained from pups 8 weeks old (terriers). But you cannot be there 24 hours per day, so when the neighbours complained, action had to be taken.
