has anyone used them with a .223 55g bullet?how did they perform,were they cleaner and how were they to reload?

used to be able to get the factory round ,the .308 acelerator ,remington they wernt very good ,designed for special military use with the sabot it did not leave a signature on the bullet !!!! i know they were outlawed in the u/s for that reason ,

to be honest pal i dont know the answer to that !!like i said they were designed for a specific purpose and that was not to leave a signature on the bullet !!!! i have used them but it must be nearly 20 years since and they were remington factory rounds

ive seen some advertised in the uk and was interested to no about them,there must be a better way of pushing a 22 cal past 4,000 fps.dont worry gordon brown is safe.

According to Wikipedia shotgun sabot rounds are now legal for hunting in most (USA) states. They give higher MV and better downrange accuracy. They are also produced in the USA for use in handguns. I haven't been able to source info about the position in the UK, but I suspect that the lack of markings on the bullet, as said above, would not go down well with the fuzz.

The ultimate sabot round is fired by the 120mm cannon used in the American Leopard battle tanks. Plastic case, Depleted Uranium core, mv over 5000fps. The American tank guns are smooth bore, the 120mm in British tanks are rifled. Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice . . .

They aren't illegal in the US, they aren't here either. They were designed simply as a way of increasing velocity not for anything dodgy.

No fella I haven't but I did wonder about using them in my 300 rum 100 grains of powder behind a 55grain vmax

I can get a 110 vmax to run at 4100fps I am not sure what a 55 grain would do I think I would have trouble with the bullet fragmenting in flight a mate of mine has the software to run the load on his computer I will call him and get the numbers
