flytie 1
Right finally got round to picking up my new rifle a days or so ago! a tikka T3 lite in 6.5x55. can any one recomend any ammo for this gun / caliber? L, I was recommended to use 140gn Federal power-shok's in my Sako and they were outstanding. I could produce 3/4" groups at 100yds off the bi-pod in a field, not bench resting. I could not get any Federal's when i last bought ammo so i bought RWS 140gn. They were £1. a bang, so I bought reloading equipment! They are not quite as accurate as the Federal's through my rifle, i only get 1" groups with these. Although for the real world, this is perfectly acceptable. I have used 156gn Norma Oryx but not enough on live quarry to give a valid opinion, at 100yds they gave 1" groups at 100yds. I would be surprised if your rifle cannot produce the same or better groups (I make no claim to being a good shot) with any factory ammo currently available. On the whole factory ammo seems astoundingly good for normal use. ft Quote Link to post
CharlieT 32
Federal 140's suit mine or Norma 120's. Both are extremely accurate through my Tikka light with the Norma having the edge. Quote Link to post
Treacle Trackpad 6
Federal 140's suit mine or Norma 120's. Both are extremely accurate through my Tikka light with the Norma having the edge. I used these when I first got my 6.5 and although accurate were a bit too explosive with the noslet BT bullets. I now reload and use 140grn SP. Most factory rounds will be accurate enough but some are quite expensive. The Norma's were £2 a pop . It's worth trying a box of Prvi just to see if your rifle likes them, not a bad soft point round and easily achieves 1MOA in the right barrel. Quote Link to post

langouroux 14
thanks guys, i have been and bought federal "power schock" soft point 140g just out of interest do any of you guys use your 6.5 with out a moderator...i have ordered one but its not in yet. the farmers want me to crack on with some foxes but wasnt sure if i should wait to zero once i have the moderator. I guess i can just re-zero when the mod arrives in a few weeks!? Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Pretty noisy without a moderator - I know the 6.5 has a reputation as a pussy cat to shoot but without a mod it'll certainly let you know its there recoil wise This is significantly reduced with a moderator. I use Federal 140gr moly coated ammo purely because its the only factory stuff i have acces to - its NOT cheap - my last lot was £37 a box which is a lot for what is supposed to be their 'no frills' cartridge. Accuracy is excellent through both the CZ 550 i started with and the Sauer 202 I shoot now. I find they drop deer very well and whilst the longer range fox goes down like a sack of spuds they over-penetrate the closer ones so arn't quite as forgiving placement wise. Homeloading is the way forward at these prices - just using up my last 60 factory rounds. Quote Link to post
clint 45
Much better with silencer, easy to get 2 shot quick, as rifle no go in air, barrel lift. Quote Link to post
