breeze 1,390
Has the heading say's my first cross collie greyhound is now 5 month's old and i thought i would take a few pic's this afternoon to let people know of her progress. At the minute i think she's about 21 1/2 to the shoulder and with a fair bit of knuckle still to grow out. I went a quick mooch earlier around some field's locally and took a dummy with me. After walking out some 60/70 yard's into longish pasture, dropped the dummy and then walked back with the pup before sending her back for it... The out - run....LOL I'm pleased with the way she's coming on with these types of retrieves, because she will stick to the task and find the dummy... Eventually finding it useing a bit of nose work, before bringing back into hand. Moved up to a 2lb gundog dummy now, and with my back to a thick hedge it stop's her running on because she comes back at a pace.... Did one more retrieve and then the dummy went away, letting the pup mooch about in front of me. She's now getting to know what her nose is for, stopping to investigate hedgerow warren's .... And also small bolt holes out into the field.... She doesn't know what she's scenting yet, but atleast it's a start. Walking a little further it was a good oppurtunity to practice a couple of distance sit / down's. Useing a raised hand and also giving her a command. Not 100% yet but we'll keep trying..... Find this an handy thing to train for later day's out working, especially while out ferreting. Introduced her then to some young heiffer's, but stayed behind the gate has they were really skittish and didn't want young Maggie scaring to much has this can be a real set back, and a dog i had year's ago had a bad experience with cattle...so once bitten twice shy now.... Found some more steadier milker's to walk thru, but she still kept an eye on them.. Just about back at the motor now, so that's about it for now... Young Maggie at 5 month's.... Quote Link to post

Borderer 0
Cracking set of pics breeze. Glad to see she's picking up the basics and getting used to the livestock. Now's the ideal time IMO for bringing on a youngster and getting the groundwork in before the real job begins. Please keep us posted of your progress. Up the collieX's Quote Link to post
