is it wise to get a border terrer for a first dog for the family.

and for when i go shooting rabbits and ferreting

ive got a 5 year old and a 9 mouth old, both boys and a misses that hates dogs.

her sister has 3 b*stard stafs.

i would like a border to join me on my runs every other day and my weekends killing rabbits for me and the ferrets to eat.????

i have never had trouble with my terriers around kids( bring them both up properly and respecting each other and its fine).

depending on how far you run really( a leggy border when of an age suitable) WOULD PROBABLY run most of us into the ground :whistling:

as above a lurcher from good stock would do the job too, just a bit quicker :tongue2:

good luck whatever dog you choose

p.s. edited to say whichever dog it should be you have to watch them around kids. i would go for a pup.

I personally think a Border is a great ideal companio for yourself, I think they are a very well rounded terrier & blend well into the family. My brother has one & also has his son coming at the end of the month.

Boundaries are the key when having children & dogs, lots of formal socialization, training around food & toys to stop possessiveness, and the main one is teaching the kids how to behave as they are worse than a pup or dog

good advice mate , i own a border and found her to be a great wee dog , good companion for you and a handy moocher .

i would be lost without mine ,she marked true from 8month will work any cover and she is a good dog round my youngster, who was 2 when i first brought her home .
