zini 1,939
Squizzers are very clever animals pal. If you move the food and dont top the bird table up they will move to the new food source very quickly, after a day or so. A well placed pellet to the brain kills them quickly. They will jump about a bit after they are hit but thats just nerves so dont get put off buddy. It will be clinically dead. Ive shot 1 or 2 in my time and am sure if you follow my tips you will do well pal. Dont shoot them in the body as they will run off and die. They are very hard animals. Dont retrieve the shot animal until you are sure they are dead. They bite like a bugger. Peanut butter is a very good attractant. I use it on my Fenn traps with some success. Makesure that you have a good backstop and that your pellet doesnt leave your garden buddy. Zini Edited February 1, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post

Zini yeah very good info zini, a head shot os really the only way, unless very close with a well aimed heart shot, they hide up very well and often they will just sit there looking at you till you raise your rifle then go up a tree and hide round the back , i have spent a while going side to side as they go side to side round the back of a tree, little buggers but good luck and let us know how u get on!! Lee85 44
between me and friends weve thinned of the grey squirrels at our spot, wev'e shot a good 60+ in the last year - at request, if you shoot with a mate it's always good where one goes one side of the tree and one the other, that always works for us but obiously watch where your shooting! as zini and others have stated, always a head shot! I've also noticed that once they have gone around the tree, if you stay stood still and don't move an inch the can't resist just popping the head up for peak, shot plenty where they have got curious and presented the head, satisfying shots! our best was 14 in a day if i remember correctly, the post will be on here somewhere! atb Quote Link to post

Lee85 44
it was fun, i mean theres still a lot there but our permission doesnt cover the full place so they kinda have a border where there safe, I was told when a squirrel dies theres another one ready to almost go straight into its territory, maybe this is why you see them squabbaling up down and threw trees, theres nothing like ending their argument for them though! Lee85 44
Aye it would be good if we did, i'd love to see one running about in there but they'd have to be introduced I suppose Quote Link to post
