Mole trap question

Recommended Posts

Hello

First post. I’m just getting into trapping and I’m particularly interested in moles. I'd like to get myself booked onto one of the available UK courses, but as I’m living in France, I thought I’d try to find a French course first.

Any internet search over here inevitably finds http://www.taupegreen.com. This guy appears to have a thriving business treating golf courses and chateaux around paris and also franchises his company name to molecatchers around France. He has a handful of websites and if you plough through them there are a couple of ( I think ) interesting videos.

All in French but the moles are the same….

First one shows the man himself and, a little way in, how he uses a Putange type trap

http://www.taupegreen.com/taupe-taupier.htm

Second ( near bottom of page ) shows the explosive powers ( and the implied danger ) of a mole banger installation.

His third site shows a mole scurrying across a pile of putange traps

http://www.piege-anti-taupe.com

This last film is really the point of this post. This guy sells a package consisting of one “How to trap moles manualâ€, eight putange traps and generously includes a “Free†packet of grass seed to reseed your molehills...

The traps in this package are all supposed to have been impregnated with the smell of the mole ( or one of his mates ) you see in video number three. I personally reckon this could be an advanced case of kidology, but as I’m a total beginner, I ask this question – could having a mole ( or anything else ) run over your traps have any possible bearing on their efficacity?

iseremarc i rekon if you were an eskimo, i would stand a better than good chance of selling you snow.

I re-kon you would Mr John. Better than the French guy has of selling me those traps for three times the price I can get them for elsewhere. I posted the video link because I thought it was "an advanced case of kidology". It's in the post. The question of odour on traps still seems to be discussed in various books and web postings though...

that last clip looks to me to have been a mole placed on the traps and its wanting to get to the earth below and is just trying to get past the traps

like has already bin mentioned , you want nothing but the smell of soil on your traps , i would just buy traps from elsewhere and set them , you will see the results youself, these are not unlike the american no-mol trap , i have used them and caught moles , but found them not as effective or fast to use as the half barrel
