harrycatcat 31
I was thinking of puting a wanted advert/post for a Baikal semi auto camo with 26 inch barrels (3 shot) but I thought I would just ask if anyone has had one or got one and their thoughts about them. I have had a Baikal o/u for 30 years and its been fine I know they are basic BUT they work or mine has anyway. Thoughts anyone?? Quote Link to post

Mine is 3 or 4 years old now harry. Only problem I had with it was a bubble in the metal in the action lock. Replaced FOC and ASAP. For what I paid for it and how it's worked for me I have no complaints at all. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
To be fair I'm not greatly familiar with their Semis at all! Used the odd one or two over the years but the only Baikal I have owned is a single barrel job sitting in my cabinet at the moment. I don't have any practical use for it and a pal is getting his paperwork together at the moment to take it away from me. My view on them is.....very few frills, don't go in for aesthetics, over/boldly engineered, solid and reliable, agricultural. If you want a sensibly priced gun to work and rely on, then I don't think you can go far wrong!! Quote Link to post

Much like you I have had a Baikal U/O for more years than I care to remember and it is still going strong. I've had a few single barrels too! I have never owned a Baikal semi, in fact the only semi I have owned was a Franchi and it was awful, very fussy about cartridges. The breaking point for me was finding myself leaning over a loaded gun, barrel pushed in to my belly, trying desperately to remove yet another jam, when suddenly I smelt the roses and gave my head a good slapping for being so stupid. I packed up my hide, my decoys and my magnet and set off home to return next day with a trusted SBS. I'll never have another semi for game shooting. My only other experience was with a chap when we were pheasant shooting, he as a rule never unloaded his semi to cross gates and the like because it was too difficult, after insisting he did, we spent five minuets either side of gates whilst he loaded / unloaded. Not really an answer to your question but if you want one for game shooting, think long and hard. John Quote Link to post
Bootsha 1,306
Just like some others, had a baikal o/u for as long as I can remember, like two scaffold poles welded together and a firing mechanism at the other end, hardworking, hardwearing, yet simple and very effective. Use it and clean it, last you a lifetime. ATB B Quote Link to post
harrycatcat 31
No no no not for game shooting but thought it would be ok for pigeoning and if I went wildfowling. I dont want frills, bells or whistles just a gun that works. Edited January 10, 2010 by harrycatcat Quote Link to post

John not trying to influence you towards the hatsan, but they do have a switch on them to disable the magazine, thus you simply pull back the cocking bolt, remove the cart in the barrel and job done Quote Link to post
