FightTheBan 1,147
I have found the .17 to be quite a dirty round, and mine needs cleanes about every 20 or so shots (not necessary but it does start to go slightly off). I zero all my rifles in at 100 yds, its just whatever your comfortable with. Cheers FTB Quote Link to post

I have CZ Silhouette HMR and it is zeroed to 100 yards, that is what I want, there are suggestions 125 is good, bottom line is you zero it where you need to!! I tend to clean mine between about 20-150 shots, some say they NEVER clean them, not sure I'd be happy with that, but don't overdo it. The HMR has a TINY bore so take great care and do it properly! Bore snakes do not clean barrels, they just give them a once over until you can do the job properly!! Mine loves the Hornady Red, but I too took advantage of the Blue, not found any difference "yet" Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
Have a look at the trajectory chart here: http://varmintal.com/17hmr.htm you will see 35yds is in the same line as 125 yds. Zero it at any range you like and change it if you want later on. Cant wait to get mine... Halam Quote Link to post
cassshantia 16
thanks for your comments much appreciated, the weight of the rifle will be reduced when i get the sights zero'd(removing the bi pod) and get my eye in as ive not had a rifle of any kind for some time now , the bi pod will then get transfered to my .243 when i purchase one Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
AS far as i know there is no difference between red and blue tipped ammo, rumor has it that the blue tips are from the .17HM2 calibre, presumably they didn't sell as much of it as they expected and had a bunch of 17gn bullet heads lying about so they decided to put them on .17HMR! zero@ 100m and shoot to 120m, I clean my rifle after every outing, as it's the same as a CF rifle, with a copper jacket so there'll be residues of copper in the barrel what will degrade accuracy, use a copper solvent which doubles as a powder solvent, i use Pro Shot Copper Solvent IV, and that works fine Quote Link to post

The official reason as spouted off by Hornady sales people is, they put the wrong die in the vat when making a few million inserts..... If you believe that one then you're   Quote Link to post
