relaxing/locking snares

Recommended Posts

i know fox snares need to be the relaxing type but can you use locking snares for mink and squirrel legally in the uk.

and are stops on fox snares a legal requirement.

I don't think you can use locking snares for any animal in the uk.

Not sure about the stops on fox snares though,i think they might be a legal requirment,to stop deer getting trapped in them, not sure though.

This extract is taken from the defra code of practice on the use of snares in fox and rabbit control. Make of it what you will.

Under the Wildlife and Countryside act 1981 the use of a "self-locking" snare is unlawful; only free running snares can lawfully be set. The term self-locking is not defined in the Act and there has been no successful prosecution within a high court enough to clarify the law by legal precedent.
