SEAN3513 7
i use mine all the time reduces glare.......even when the suns not out also protects the end of the lens from knocks etc be carefull if using it on a wide setting you can end up with vignetting (spelling?) this is when the camera picks up the edges of the hood around the edge of the picture, but if its a dedicated hood it should be ok. cheers sean

ghillies 209
what Tammy lens Kay? i've hardly ever used it on a 55-200mm(tamron) but on the sigma zoom does help from time to time.
MuttleMcTuttle 21
what Tammy lens Kay? i've hardly ever used it on a 55-200mm(tamron) but on the sigma zoom does help from time to time. I once had a couple of Sigma lenses and found them to be horribly prone to lens flare, so I'd recommend using a lens hood with them. Dunno about Tamron, but I haven't often noticed a problem with Canon lenses. Kay, I'd suggest using a UV filter to protect the front element of your lens, and use the hood when it is a bright day. You shouldn't notice any vignetting if you are using the hood that was supplied with the lens. Vignetting is usually only a problem with wide lenses if you put several filters on the front. Kay 3,709
Just another quick one tonight there will no doubt be fireworks going off here so whats the best settinsg to have my camera on to try & capture some of them oh & do i need the flash on or off generally ? SEAN3513 7
i would not use the flash have the aperture wide open ( lowest f your lens will do) and a around 1/200 shutter or higher depends how far away you are a case of trial and error good luck sean
MuttleMcTuttle 21
No flash, use manual focus set at something about the same distance as the fireworks. Set the aperture to f11, iso 100, and experiment with shutter speeds ranging from 1 second to 30 seconds for a really long burst of fireworks. Obviously with speeds this slow you'll need to use a tripod or place the camera on a really solid support. If you're using a long exposure adjust the aperture (f number) up to f16/ f22.
