Thanks! and happy x-mass and hope everyone has a good boxing day. Well we have freezing rain for the next two days so I will be waiting until the weekend to try for another deer. then 3 months a turkey hunting time. here are two bird I got last spring.

I take it airguns are frowned upon in the States .Stange when you can hunt with muzzle loader .All about tradition though isnt it .Do you do any bow hunting mate ,now that is something i would love to try .Been to Florida a few times and mean to try moonlight boar shooting next time .ATB ,FD .

Fantastic - shorter range but they have a lot of wallop! Iron sites as well i assume... thats where your fieldcraft comes in. Decent beard on the Turkey - to be honest i'm sick of the sight of them having been plucking and drawing 100 of the buggers last weekend but that is one i don't mind looking at. I've heard its a sure-fire way to get a numb ass waiting for Turkey!

sure I will take a picture of my gear for yea. I did bow hunting for dear but I really like putting meat in the freezer every year so I stick to my muzzloader. I do kill rabbits with my long bow, that can be fun besides the rabbits screaming. :)I mainly us my Tompson center omega 50 cal with leupold riflemen shooting a barnes TMZ bullet 250 grain. I do have a traditional plains rifle, but it is only good out to 50-60 yards with patched round ball, I mostly us it for fun shooting. (did not take a picture of it since I am selling to a guy and it is boxed up.

 

You can us a air rifles here but not many people here do.

 

with a turkey vest they have a seat built in so I have not had that problem. the last bird you see I shot at 10 feet (with my 12 ga browning fusion)and only sat for 30 mins. The other bird took 3 hours of run and gun to finally put down at 20 yards.

 

I hunt pheasant from late october until jan with my pointer, deer hunt in late dec, and Turkeys in the spring. I am trying to master fly fish.

Interesting bow – I thought (wrongly it appears) that most hunting was done with re-curve compound bows or crossbows. The muzzle loader I used in NZ was a very old-school flint-lock long rifle with pretty basic iron sites – pretty heavy but incredibly well balanced but, like you say, you wouldn’t shoot too far with it.

Was the deer playing on the sledge when you shot it or did you put it on afterwards.

I have learned that pulling a deer in a foot of snow is exuasting, but putting a deer on a sled is much easer. Here in the US you can't drive on public land and many farmers don't want you driving in their fields either.

 

in the US people hunt with four kinds of bows, Compound, recurve, longbow, and selfbow (in order of easy to difficult, and shooting range).
