SAKO 85 22-250rem

Recommended Posts

only you can find that out mate. each rifle is different'' even if there the same make some will shoot some brands better then others.

here is a couple to try

1. winchester silvertips 50 grain or 55 grain

2. federal powershok 55 grain hollow point.

3.sako gamepoint 55 grain.

4.

as for reloads depending on twist of barrel ? i think yours will be 1 in 14 ? then 40 grain up to 55 grain.

of course there are vmax, blizkings, these are bt ammo, you can get softpoint heads and hollow point heads also.

powder wise varget is a good one to try, h380, h4895, h414, then there is the vit range of powders

Seems daft really but jamie is right, pal of mine got a Rem 700SPS just before I got mine about a year ago now, both in .308 mind you. Nevertheless, mine shoots PRVI 150g SP into 1" all day and he is lucky to get 3" from EXACTLY the same ammo (we bought it at the same time from the same batch from the same dealer), and whilst it grates with me to say it he is probably a better shot than me!!

Just wondering what factory ammunition works well in your sako 85 22-250rem ,also what homeloads work well

Here is what i use in my home loads with my Sako 75 Heavy barrel in 22/250

Hodgden Powder...Varget 34gr of powder with a Nosler Ballistic Tip 55g head and a CCI Magnum Primer.

Awesome Fox Dropper...Took me a while to get it just right for me, if you are ever near Edinburgh give me a shout i will give you a few to try.

Cheers jamie g ,im going to start with a load that i used to use with my old remington 34grains of h4895 and 55gr nosler ballistic tip heads with cci large rifle primers and work the load from there ive also got some varget and 55gr sierra gameking to play with aswell, but i was just interested what others were using.

hilux when you say you use cci magnum primers would they be much the same as the cci long rifle primers ?. ive always used the same primers and never thought that changing them would make much difference,is this the case ?.

Deker i have tried the privi stuff in 55gr 22-250rem but the groupings were not that hot best was about 2.5 inch groups at 100yds ,which is a pain because i could get the privi cheap, ive also tried homeloads using 34gr n140 and both 55gr sierra gamekings and 55gr nosler ballistic tips which were slightly better at about 1.5inch at 100yds but i feel that the h4895 is a better powder.

Don't make the Home Brews myself, but Mr L has knocked up a few for me and we can get touching with some of these!

It does seem that I am fortunate with my .223, .243 and .308, they can all shoot PRVI to an acceptable level (1 inch or better), whereas many guns can't. Just goes to show, as we have said, that bullets and loads needs to be looked at for each gun, not necessarily each make of guns!!

only difference is Magnum Primers Burn faster, was adviced to use these by local gunsmith as he found they worked best with the load i intended to use
