Ever feel like murdering that 'promising' young pup?

Recommended Posts

Crashed my van this morning on the way to feed for the keeper, so day started bad but i was in a decent enough mood as everything was alright really and decided to take my pup out.

Walked to the next village to see some very good freinds and after a chat take the pup (7 months in a week) round their garden to reinforce the stock steadiness to ther chickens. Now after getting it into her head a good few months ago that chickens are off the menu she has been fine around them, usually just watches them and stays away from them. However today one of the chickens got into a bit of a flap up against the fence and then flew near my pup and then she nailed it! Outcome, dead chicken, broken stick and me fuming. The pup was quite chuffed with herself but knew i was pissed off with her. I know this is my fault, put too much trust in her but now im concerned she has a taste for chickens and may develop the same for sheep. Baby steps with the stockbreaking again from now on untill she is 110%.

Coincidentally her retreiving has gone to shite recently as well. Droping the dummy 2 meters short or just fecking off with it, but this isnt too much of a concern for me as i have all summer to sort out that. Stock steadiness on the other hand bothers me!

sk a farmer/shepard if he can let you put her in with a ewe thats just had lambs in a small pen let the sheep give it couple of knocks and she will never look near sheep again. as to chickens just on a lead and training

cheers

Or she might take a life long hate of them and kill the fukers every oportunity she gets, too big a risk for me. But yeh, lead training and a decent whippy bit of hazle i think. Just got to take it slowly and steady and not put too much trust in her like i did today.

My pup nearly 10 months now, I have had her about 3 weeks and i get that feeling everyday :icon_eek: I had a bit of a problem with her and horses she would run up the field around them close and back to me, i would call her and she would just go deaf on me. However this stopped last week when she did it but stopped to sniff a stallions tail 3 seconds later and she was cured with a swift kick. I heard her yelp and shat myself but no lasting injuries. I am going to go with the sheep and small pen idea to cure her of those too tho i have not been in a field with sheep with her as yet.

As i look across the room now i see she is asleep in front of log burner looking so angelic!!!!
