Day 15

Recommended Posts

Alreet chaps. How many of you let the weather forecast dictate whether you go out or stay at home? If I had gone with the forecast like today i'd have been out 3 times this year at best. I'm not saying it was dry and comfortable all the times i've been out, but when you are out, even getting a good morning out of it makes it worthwhile.

Today was one of those days. Forecast rain all morning with showers in the afternoon. It pretty much upheld its end of the deal. It will take a bit more than a shower to stop the job.

Same as yesterday, The three runners, the quad, the old chap and three fat ferrets (two albino jills and one albino hob) this time. (let them get a little heavy over the last week.)

This showed in the speed they worked, the job was still done, just a little less fire than them being fit. (still had a few digs though, this one had a rabbit arsed up saying no way.) This one was never coming out in a month of Sundays, which after an 18" dig i cannot see the mentality of waiting for 1 hr for a ferret to come out for a 2 minute job.

Forget the locater, who needs them. :wallbash:

Thought after yesterday that we could have an easy day, but the young dogs were having none of it.

A lot of rabbits coming from the rushes, some nailed on the seat, and some from daft long runs, taking 4 or 5 turns, then a few from the ferrets, saw the bag steadily get bigger. The weather not even bothering the dogs until gutting time at 3pm when they finally stopped for 5 mins.

HE'S MY BROTHERRR!

All the squad were wiped out to be honest, 2 hard days on the trot you can even see the dogs ribs appear.

Get lost, my day is done!

Ended up with 44.

:clapper::clapper: well done brimmer :notworthy: do you think the bunnys bolt as good in the rain as the dry im a fair weather ferreter :tongue2: but might have to start gan in the rain or will never get fecking oot :censored::censored:

Not sure it makes any difference whether its wet, dry or the wind blowing from any direction. Not found a pattern yet.

Only thing i've found is early in the season the young inexperienced rabbits will bolt easier, as the season draws on, they'll take there chances with the ferrets.

Bieng quiet around the holes and keeping well back from sight does help a percentage to bolt, but not always, some just dont want to bolt and some do.

Then there are those that the dogs run to ground, you would think they'ed never bolt after being hard pushed, but half the time they will bolt again.

Everyone knows they stand less chance of getting away from the larger and stronger ferret, but i'm convinced that unless you have a ferret thats committed to the job, and willing to kill, sometimes the rabbits can boss them, and wont shift.

One thing for certain, ferreting in the rain is a pain. I try to use the jills or the small hobs hoping they will bolt. Digging is no fun in the rain. ;)
