Does CZ still make the 550 Scandinavian?? Used to come with open sights, for some reason I thought they stopped making it, or did they just change the name, OK, I give up, I'm probably wrong anyway!!!!!

The CZ generally are workmanlike, efficient and have very few bells and whistles, the Howa could be argued to be a little prettier!

Howa used to guarantee 1.25 inch groups at 100 yards, never did impress me much, frankly the metalwork is ok but I do not like the Hogue stocks at all, personal thing, many do!!

Overall, I don't think there is much to choose between either.

Don't see you going far wrong either way!

Anybody had any dealings with the cz rifles in .243? I been looking at (online) the 550 scandinavian, any good? Also, whats the consensus of opinion on Howa rifles again in 243?

I have cz in 243, 550 American had it for 8 years now and has never let me down, also have a sako 75 heavy barrel in 22/250 that i use for FOX, if i had to let one go even though the sako is far superior in build and class ???

then i am afraid the sako would have to go, i value my cz far to much to part with it, even though it costs a 3rd less than the sako...IT STAYS and the sako goes.

they are cheap and cheerfull like the FORDS in cars they go for ever if you look after them.

GO BUY ONE... you wont regret it.

I had a CZ 550 standard in .308, it was a good shooter. I have CZs in Hornet and 223, and they both shoot well as well.

I also have a Howa in 243, which is also a good shooter.

Personally in .243 I would get something with a twist faster than 1:10, so that means Remington, Savage and Ruger. All will be good, my pick for out of the box accuracy would be Savage, but Remingtons are pretty damn solid too.

All that said, if you get a CZ I doubt you will go wrong, they are very good guns.

Well that says it all i think, i take it you'd recommend buying new then mate? Whilst ive hopefully got your attentions, has anyone used or abused Burris scopes?

I would buy new if you have the cash and as santa will be coming soon, go for a Smidt & Bender 6x42 (german) scope you can pick up a good one 2nd hand for around £300, and when you decide to replace it you will get your money back on it no problem.

I used to have all the cz range from 452/527 to 6.5 & 308 in cz550, i loved them all, accuracy once tweeked they out shone most at double the price, the wood takes a good bit of work, & seems to sweat bruising out a lot better, than most. As for the 243 , miss it & go 6.5 .
