Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Unless you have a lot of dogs coming and going, a bitch about to whelp or unless you have real filth to clear up I cant see an advantage in using any disinfectant. Your dogs and ferrets will have resistance to most of the bugs around and their inocculations should protect them against the real killers like distemper and parvo. The disinfectant costs money and has the potential to cause skin, lung and eye problems for the dogs and induce resistance in the bugs. Simple physical removal of dirt and waste- i.e. washing down and brushing out etc ought to do the job. Keep the kennels spotlessly clean and tidy, the dogs jabbed and treated for worms, fleas and mange etc and you should never need any kind of disinfectant. You are right mate to a certain degree but prevention is better than cure and it keeps smell to a minimum . My vet told me recently that unless a dog is up to date with its boosters then there is still a risk of parvo ?.

AS HE BUYS BATTLES BLACK IN BULK KING , WITHOUT SEEING YOUR DUCKS ....... I WOULD GUESS THAT THE LAYINGS STOPPED BECAUSE OF A COMBINATION OF A FEW THINGS ......... ITS MOULTING TIME FOR MOST BIRDS . THEY NEED A HIGHER PROTIEN LEVEL AS THEY ARE GROWING A FULL NEW SET OF FEATHERS AND LEG SCALES , ONE HELL OF A DRAG TO A BIRDS SYSTEM !! , TRY FEEDING A MASH WITH EXTRA MEAT AND BONE MEAL ADDED [ HIGH PROTEIN ] , GIVE ALL THE GREENS THEY WILL EAT , IF KEPT CONFINED THE NEXT THING IS ............... LIGHT ............. THE NIGHTS ARE DRAWING IN , A BIRDS BODYS TELLING IT TO BULK UP READY TO SURVIVE THE WINTER NOT LAY ITS ARSE OFF !! ..... TRY GIVING EXTRA LIGHT , LENGTHENING THE DAY MORNING AND NIGHT BY A FEW HOURS HOPE THIS HELPS DUCKWING

Guest MOLLY
I use Virkons, about once a month in the ferret run, give it a good soak. Got it from the farmer, its the stuff they used in the foot and mouth scare. MOLL.
scouse moocher 0
I always have both Jeyes fluid & Trigene in, first came across the stuff when i was working at a boarding kennels where it was on tap, was used everywhere - pens, runs, kennels, corridors, cattery blocks they where very anti parvo. Use ordinary disinfenctant and bleach every other day in my pens, give em a good soak then jetwash. Find the Trigene usefull for swilling pens out that will be holding puppies etc. Can never be to carefull when it comes to cleanliness imo. AnT
