Is It Me

Recommended Posts

Got to the farm today and set my nets out, then decided to give one of my Jill's a turn down the holes first. So I put a collar on her and left the other Jill with my hob in their box. Anyway she does not seem to want to go down the holes? I don't force her! if she turns to come out I just try another hole. But as I said she does not want to go down instead she jumps around in her usual playfully manner. :wallbash:

Both my gills do the same, I only put one down at a time cause I'm on my own / inexperienced and trying to watch whats going on.

My Jill's are still young this years so I assume its just down to youth and cause its only their third time out. :hmm:

As for my Hob he will go down the holes after a while but either keeps them backed up or kills them so I have to dig for him (and that craps me up in case I chop him in two with the spade) But I'm told this is common for hobs. :ninja: Anyway I managed to come away with three medium rabbits but lost same again due to either my wrongly setting of the nets (that I made myself) or I was not fast enough when they got caught in the nets and so managed to escape. :whistling:

And to make my day worse my Jill was on her way out when a rabbit shot up behind her and caught them both in the purse net, this would have been ok if thats all that happened but I assume because my Jill was startled and caught quite tight in the net she made a right scream went mad  I bit me like a good en :censored: Is there any place I can attend like a ferreting school :duh: to see where I may be going wrong?

You don't need a school. It happens to us all, just part of learning. Try and find a local ferreter to help would be your best bet. or even a mate with an open mind to keep an extra set of eyes out over the buries. Just keep plugging away, good things will happen.

hiya mate i had the same problem with my years jill first few times out but after bolting a couple with my other hobs and given her a good look and a shake she's come on great and as for killing down i have one bloody hob whos an expert might be because he was wild for a good three months or so before he was trapped and given to me, i find it pays off to feed him before i go slows him down abit and gives him less of a desire to kill i guess. if their escaping the nets try using a lighter weigh like 6z with a small mesh will tangle better ensuring the rabbits well tangled, but if its more a case of you cant get there in time try ferreting small warrens at first maybe 4-5 holers to build your confidence. as for school just find some one in your area thats experienced and willing to take you out a few times to show you the ropes.

atb lilpip and let me know how your getting on
