Squirrel_Basher 17,102
I know that bucks vary up and down the country , ive seen them in antler after christmas down here but not the norm i must say .I think this year the wet is having an effect on movement which is a big factor in antler shedding i think . J Darcy 5,871
Several years ago i saw a buck on boxing day that had fresh bloody stumps. No more than a day or two old. That was only a youngish buck though. Quote Link to post

monynut 2
Saw a large 6 point buck today in velvet and his antlers were nearly twice the length of his ears. Still got 1 or 2 of my lads in hard antler but also seeing a few well on "in velvet" now, lets hope its a good winter for them. Quote Link to post
mj robson 8
I've been stalking Does the last 2 nights on a 50 acre Rape field. We saw 26 Roe last night and 21 tonight, all the bucks were cast and 4 or 5 had a good growth under velvet. I found out the reason so many were out in the field once we got to the wood on it's boundary. The floor of the wood was totally flooded out, forcing the deer to couch up in the grass margin of the rape field. Mark. Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
the rule is that older bucks will shed before young.both velvet and antler. young will colour( hair/coat) before old. atb Quote Link to post

v-max 2
the rule is that older bucks will shed before young.both velvet and antler. young will colour( hair/coat) before old. atb This I know but not all bucks have read this rule Very true they dont all read the books & is one of the first things i teach people under me to help them age them when the change is on with coat change & antler velvet shed. I have been beating alot lately & seen quite a few of the younger bucks 1-3yrs roughly are still in hard horn. Quote Link to post
