cutting brambles back

Recommended Posts

near me were i take my dogs and ferrets i used to see 60 to 80 rabbits a day every day summer or winter when oct come i started to ferret it and was getting 15 a week.

2 years ago some one eles was going there and cutting all the hole covers i mean the brambles from the holes it was good for me lol but 2 years later i go there every day walking the dogs and i only see about 5 or 6 at the most.

to me its the bramble bit if you cut there cover they will not stay there some people will say im wrong but i been watching them now for 2 years,

its like your own house if some one takes your fence down you dont feel safe any answers on this one and nice ones not ones that take the pxxs please

For me I would say its down to taking to many rabbits from the one warren, if you take more than the rabbits can breed repacements, then numbers will plummet :)

tes i no that but other people dont no lol if you looked at last years replys to anything like this i only take a few and every year they stay the same.

just cant belive in 2 years there is nothing there now used to go with lamp on gun and see 100 in one feild easy and thats every night.

not that i shoot them all the time just go and look

i could bolt 15 out of one hole today the holes are not even been used

and black rabbits they was 10 or more not seen one now for a year sad realyy i no they are virvin but it was good sport some people just wreck everything

Exactly that's why I only take 5 at the most on a days ferreting that plenty for me

same here on the farms i go take a few and home most times i let them go to only do it for fun m=now getting old and soft i think n=but its a day out with the ferrets and dogs some times i do not even net the holes

That's what I'm going to start doing when I get a locator is ferreting without nets

ifind its fun i only have cocker dogs makes good training to trying to stop then chaseing them lol this way i dont kill any and im out all day

now and then i kill for the pot

I don't see why you would put a ferret into a warren without the intention of catching the rabbits.

If the Farmer/Landowner gives you permission to ferret on there land I am sure that they would want you to get rid of the rabbits not just scare them.

In reply to the main question I think that it shows that you have done a good job and lowered the numbers on the land.

I would say personally that if you are there to do a job/favour for the land owner you would want to get as many as possible, this (from previous experience) gets your name known to the land owner for doing a good job, therefore leading onto more permission. However if the landowner isn't too bothered by the bunnies then i would agree on keeping numbers there for sport, its all dependant on what the land owner is after, regards, Rory

As rory and simonrob says a lot of the land we ferret and shoot would go mental if we told them it was only

for sport or the pot they would out us and get someone in who would control the rabbits and there is plenty

of ferreters who will

This is how we have obtained all the permissions we have by word and mouth is by doing a good job of drasticly reducing the

rabbit numbers on there land but come the spring/summer the burries soon fill up again and we start all over again

I can see what you are saying but i also hope you understand where im coming from that we would soon be outed off some of

my biggest and best permissions and would not get recomended for anywhere else if we started letting rabbits go
